DREAMS MAGAZINE FEATURING STÉPHANE ARTERO: THE ART OF CUSTOM-MADE JEWELRY

For years, I leafed through DREAMS magazine with admiration. It was a magazine that made me dream, and in which I never imagined I would one day see my work. Today, finding myself in issue #114, the High Jewelry Special , interviewed across a double-page spread, is a profoundly moving experience. It's a major recognition for my design studio at 22 Bis Boulevard Dubouchage in Nice.

DREAMS No. 114: Special High Jewelry Edition

A leading magazine that highlights the workshop

DREAMS Magazine, the leading quarterly publication for jewelry, watches, and fine jewelry, chose to title its issue No. 114 "High Jewelry Special." I had the honor of being interviewed by Kyra Brenzinger in a profile entitled "The Art of Bespoke Jewelry."

The article presents our workshop showroom in the heart of Nice, this place away from the hustle and bustle that I wanted as a setting for exchange to welcome my French and international clients around rare stones.

How did my passion begin?

As I recount in DREAMS, I grew up surrounded by the rhythm of my father's workshop , a renowned chain manufacturer in France. While I initially pursued a different path in IT, all the while nurturing my passion for drawing and photography, the world of creation never left me. In 2003, I took over the family business, founded in 1961, with the intention of dedicating myself entirely to creating bespoke jewelry.

Today, each creation is born in our workshop from a unique story, an emotion, a memory, or an exceptional stone that becomes the starting point for a piece of jewelry designed exclusively for its future owner.

The 3.25 carat Muzo emerald with the gota de aceite phenomenon

This is the heart of the interview. You know how passionate I am about Colombian emeralds. Over the years, I've forged a special partnership with the owners of a mine in the Muzo region , the birthplace of some of the world's finest emeralds. This direct sourcing allows me to offer you exceptional traceability and to know the exact history of each stone.

I recently had a film made for a client showing the extraction of her emerald directly at the mine.

In DREAMS, I present an extremely rare gemstone that I currently offer: a 3.25-carat emerald exhibiting the gota de aceite phenomenon, meaning "drop of oil" in Spanish. This is a fascinating optical phenomenon, as if light were circulating within the stone. It comes with a certificate from the Gübelin laboratory in Switzerland. To showcase it, I designed an Art Nouveau-inspired setting, which you can see in a gouache painting in the article.

My other top picks: the teal sapphire and the Laura ring.

I also collaborate with gem dealers who travel the globe in search of exceptional stones. My current favorite is the teal sapphire. Long overlooked, it stands out for its fascinating palette—blending deep blue, lagoon green, and ocean gray—and appeals thanks to the significant number of unheated stones still available. It perfectly embodies my approach: seeking out the exceptional and prioritizing authenticity.

You can see it featured in the article—set in the rose gold and diamond "Laura" ring, and as a pendant in white gold for the Muzo emerald.

Nice: elegance through the ages

DREAMS also mentioned me in their feature "Heading for the French Riviera," which celebrates designers from Monaco to Saint-Tropez. A wonderful tribute to our French Riviera and our local expertise in Nice.

"Based in a workshop and showroom in the heart of Nice, jewelry designer Stéphane Artero offers unique creations for lovers of rare gemstones." — DREAMS Magazine No. 114 - High Jewelry Special

Many thanks to the entire DREAMS team, to Kyra Brenzinger , Caroline Corvaisier and Marianne Tran for their trust.
